I just started another Oprah & Deepak 21-Day Meditation Experience, which is an excellent introduction to meditation. This one is focused on getting unstuck and creating a limitless life.

There are so many things in our day-to-day life that get us stuck. We get stuck in the morning trying to figure out what to wear. We get stuck deciding if we should swipe left or right on that dating app. We get stuck in a job that it is ok, but we aren’t happy.

Why do we get stuck?

One of the reasons discussed in the Oprah & Deepak 21-Day Meditation Experience is that we get stuck focusing on the past and future.

“Do you ever find yourself repeating the same words, feeling opinions and phrases? Well, that’s your stuck-ness speaking. Do you ever find yourself in automatic mode? Stop for a moment. Are you disconnected from the calm centeredness of yourself?”

Too often we dwell in what could have been, what we did wrong or what we should be doing in the future. Unless you have a time machine that can teleport you back in time, focusing on the past is often pointless.

Focusing too much on the future also triggers unnecessary stress causing you to be stuck once again. I’m sure you’re thinking, “How can I grow without focusing on my future? “ Easily, there is nothing wrong with setting goals and holding yourself accountable to those aims. However, when you start to hear yourself say, “I should…” stop and think, “Is this a limiting belief or an old pattern that is disrupting my growth?” If the answer is yes, this is a sign that you may be stuck.

An excellent way to catch yourself from repeating old habits that keep you stuck is to challenge yourself to stop when you hear yourself. Deepak Chopra recommends in their meditation experience to take five minutes to close your eyes, focus on your breath and to be present in the moment.

Stuck live in present

The present is where all the magic happens anyways. The present is where you start making the transformative life decisions and where the growth truly happens.

So if you are tired of always feeling like you’re stuck, I challenge you to take the next three days to focusing on your words and feelings and stop yourself when you hear, “I should…” and focus on being present.

Hopefully, you’ll start noticing your thoughts are clearer, and you’re becoming more in sync with being your authentic self.
