My family just returned from a group trip to New Orleans for Thanksgiving. I had fun, but family vacations can be exhausting.

I was expecting some Real Housewives of Atlanta type of drama, but honestly the trip was overall peaceful. It got me thinking though about those family vacations or group trips that aren’t so peaceful due to the company.

If you’re lucky, you’ll never meet one of these personalities that can ruin a group trip. But as my dad says, “travel enough and one of them will end up on your trip.”

Tardy for the Party:

This is the person who is always late. You tell her to be ready by 9:30 AM and she is just jumping into the shower at 10:00 AM. And don’t try to leave without them, because all hell will break lose.

Ring Leader:

For some, a family vacation or a group trip is about having the rest of the group follow their lead and do everything they want to do. This personality type is also known as the self-centered one.

Magician:

The magician will make you want to find a way to make them disappear. This is the person who magically gets out of paying their share of the expenses. From accidentally leaving their money in the hotel room to under-paying on bills. Unless you want to deal with arguments over money, ditch this person before the trip even starts.

The Complainer:

Some people don’t even realize they have something negative to say about everything, but they can bring down the mood of the entire group if not addressed. This personality type would find a way to complain about a free trip to Greece in one of the best hotels because that’s what they do. They constantly complain instead of finding gratitude in being together.

Sticky:

No matter how much you love being around this person, when someone is clingy on a trip that gets annoying quickly. Imagine not having a moment to yourself because the clingy traveler is always by your side. If you must go to the bathroom, they go with you or are not so patiently waiting for you outside. Family vacations are exhausting on their own. Having a clingy traveler that refuses to give you any space can be your worst nightmare.
