Experiencing a flower bath in one of the many spas in Bali is a relaxing and healing experience. You may be thinking a trip to Bali is exactly what you need right now. However, until this travel hibernation is over, creating your own flower bath experience at home is the next best thing!
To recreate this Balinese experience you don’t need much and you can buy all the items online, including flowers in case your local flower shop is closed during the COVID-19 quarantines.
The first step to recreating this Balinese experience is setting the mood. “Nothing says relaxation more than a dirty bathroom,” said no one. Thus, the first thing is to clean the bathroom. Consider adding candles, crystals, sage or your favorite incense as well.
You can take this experience up a notch by adding an extra ritual. Before any massage or flower bath in Bali, they always wash your feet. Fold a regular sized bath towel in half on the floor in front of a chair or use the toilet. Then place a foot bowl on top of the towel with a salt scrub and soap in arm’s reach. Let your feet soak while you drink your favorite tea (alcohol) or write in your journal. Use this time to meditate and unwind so your mind is in the right place before stepping into your flower bath.
Once the foot bathing ritual is complete, all is left to do is to step into your tub and let your mind travel to Bali. Adding music or essential oils can also enhance the mood. If you have kids or a partner, a fun way to get them involved in your ‘me time’ is to have them help in removing the petals from the flowers or washing your feet.

Flowers Options & Benefits
Select flowers based on colors or benefits that resonate with you
Calendula: helps to soothe, hydrate, and repair the skin
Chamomile: Soothes skin
Dandelions help rejuvenate your skin
Frangipani: Natural aphrodisiac and reduces inflammation
Jasmine: Enhances your mood and refreshes your skin
Lavender: Calms the mind and relieve stress
Linden flowers: Helps in relaxation and preventing a cold
Lotus Flower: Softens skin and reduces anxiety

Tips to Enhance Your Experience
- Get everything prepared before you start
- Use organic or pesticide-free flowers
- Use one or two different types of flowers until you determine your favorite blend
- Instead of whole flowers, consider using the petals which will make the tub look fuller and will cost less
- Buy bigger petals or flowers for more coverage
- Use lukewarm water so petals will last longer
- Slowly add milk to avoid foam and stir with hands to make even distribution
- Budget-friendly: Only put petals toward the lower end of the tub, which still looks nice and requires fewer flowers
- Avoid hot water as it dehydrates the skin
- Fill water to be right above your body
- Pat your skin dry, not rubbing, when you’re done. This helps your skin retain moisture.
- Clean flowers before draining the tub rather as they could go down the drain causing a clog
