At some point in your life, you get tired of “shoulding” all over yourself.
I should apply for that new job.
I should take better care of myself
I should move to Italy.
Wait…that last one was my “should.” But before I tell you that story, let me introduce myself.
My name is Danielle and I am the CEO and founder of Rogue Experiences, a travel concierge for women of color. I love showing women how to break up with the norm and discover the lives they’re meant to lead via unforgettable travel experiences.
I’ve always been a free spirit and travel has been a lifetime love of mine, but before I turned it into a business, I was stuck in the trap of waiting for the “right time” to see more of the world. I had a full life and a job that I enjoyed as an event coordinator, but on the inside, I wasn’t truly happy.
When I took the time to think about it, I realized how stifled my entire life felt. I felt like a caged bird and desperately wanted to break free. So, I did. I quit my job and bought a one-way ticket to Italy, and lived there for two years.
Imagine how many times I was called crazy by my family and friends (let me tell you…it was many, many times!). Yet I knew in my heart it was what I had to do. I was tired of merely existing and blending in with my surroundings, doing what others thought I should do. I wanted my life and the pursuit of my own happiness back, and travel was the key to setting me free.
Those two years in Italy changed me for the better and for the good. I came home and returned to the workforce, but after seven years of working in the tech space in Silicon Valley, those feelings of being trapped and uninspired began to return. I took a misery-inducing job that was fancy and lucrative, but going there every day made me physically sick. Work had become my life and I had the capped out stash of vacation time to prove it.
My heart was telling me there had to be more to life than the over-worked, unfulfilled days I was living, and it was truly time to live life on my own terms. So, I went rogue again and I quit!
This time, I started a blog to document my travel experiences and help women push outside their comfort zone. The blog was a great outlet for me and before I knew it, people were asking me for advice on how to travel smarter and see the world. All of that turned into what has now become Rogue Experiences.
If you’re a woman that is tired of ignoring that feeling in your gut, nudging you to burst through the monotony of your life, we should talk. If you’re ready to stop it with the “shoulds” and actually start living life on your own terms, I want to hear from you. Let’s connect so I can help you not only take a much needed vacation, but take the exhilarating feeling of being on a vacay into your everyday life. Let’s go rogue, together.
